The marble sculpture of Columbus was generally cleaned to remove soot and biological growth, followed by a water misting system set up to gently loosen gypsum crusts. A small material loss (the figure's finger) was rebuilt using marble powder modeled in epoxy, inpainted to provide a greater color match. All surfaces were chemically consolidated.
